Experience:

Deon joined RMB Asset Management in August 2007 as CIO and was appointed CEO in February 2008, a position he currently holds.

Prior to this, he pursued an academic career having studied Chartered Accountancy and gaining an M.Phil Finance at Cambridge University. Before moving from academia into the private sector to head Sanlam’s business in London, he was Professor of Accountancy at the University of Johannesburg (RAU).

Current Position: Head: Institutional Business
Experience: Sibusiso joined RMB Asset management in April 2009 as Head of Institutional Business and in May of that year he became an Executive Director on the Board of Directors.

His career began in 1998 at Investec Asset Management where he fulfilled many roles including equity dealing support, portfolio administration and scrip lending. 2001 found him at Momentum, first in Employee Benefits and later as part of Momentum Investment’s Product Development team. Just prior to joining RMB Asset Management he worked for Cadiz Financial Strategy Group as a Portfolio Manager, then Director for Asset Management Business and a member of the Executive Decision Forum.

Current Position: Director of Companies
Experience:

Laurie served as Chief Executive of FirstRand Limited until 31 December 2005. He continues to serve the Group in a non-executive capacity as chairman of Momentum, OUTsurance and a director of FirstRand Bank Ltd and FirstRand Ltd.

He also served as CEO of RMB from September 1988 to June 1992. In May 1998 Laurie was appointed as the first CEO of FirstRand Limited.

N Dunkley

Current Position: Chief Financial Officer: Momentum Group Limited
Experience: As CFO for the Momentum Group since early 2009, Nigel is responsible for financial management, actuarial disciplines, portfolio management and deal making as well as management of Momentum’s balance sheet.

Previous positions in Momentum include Senior Tax Consultant, Group Finance Manager and founder of Corporate Advisory Services.

PK Harris

Paul was CEO of FirstRand Limited from 2006 until 2009 when he handed over to Sizwe Nxasana. 

He graduated from the University of Stellenbosch and joined the Industrial Development Corporation where he served for four years. Paul was co-founder of RCI. RCI acquired control of RMB in 1985 and he became an Executive Director of the Bank. He spent four years in Australia where he founded Australian Gilt Securities (later to become RMB Australia) and returned to South Africa in 1991 where he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of RMB. In 1992 he took over as Managing Director and CEO, a position he held until July 1999 when he became CEO of FirstRand Bank.

RJ Hutchison

Current Position: Director: Momentum Group and Spar Group
Experience:

Rowan currently serves as an independent non-executive director for both Spar and Momentum Groups.

He has had an extensive and dedicated career in all aspects of asset management. Rowan retired in 2000 as CEO of RMB Asset Management, which is a company he co-founded in 1990.

NAS Kruger

Current Position: Chief Executive Officer: Momentum Group Limited
Experience: Nicolaas was appointed CEO of the Momentum Group in January 2009.

He began his career as an actuarial assistant at Momentum in 1991, qualifying as an actuary through the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland in 1992. In 1997, he became the Chief Actuary of Momentum.

Over the years he has represented Momentum at numerous industry forums and lent his expertise to various Actuarial Society Committees. He currently serves on the Board of ASISA. Before his latest appointment he performed the office of Momentum’s CFO.

M Mthombeni

Current Position: Chairman: Investments & Group Business
Experience: Morris’ current leadership spans Momentum’s wealth creation and social security business and focuses on meeting the needs of retail and institutional clients through RMB Asset Management, FRAIM and Momentum Wealth and Advantage Asset Managers. He has over seventeen years experience in insurance-based financial services and extensive management experience in areas that include product development, legal services as well as strategy development across the retail, healthcare and investment industries.

AT Nzimande
Qualifications:

Current Position: Chief Financial Officer: WDB Investment Holdings Limited
Experience: In addition to financial oversight at WDB Holdings, Tandi helps manage a number of investment portfolios, executes transactions and monitors investment relationships.

Previously she has worked as a chartered accountant with KPMG and was a Senior Associate in the investment banking division of Deutsche Bank specialising in Mergers and Acquisitions. Other directorships include FirstRand, Outsurance, Paracon Holdings and Mintbrooke technologies.

BJ van der Ross

Apart from his current position, Ben’s directorships include FirstRand Limited, Momentum Group, Naspers Ltd, and Pick n Pay Stores Ltd. He also serves on both FirstRand and Momentum Director’s Affairs and Audit Committees.

After his admittance to the Cape Side Bar as an attorney, Ben practiced for his own account for 16 years. He has been Executive Director of the Urban Foundation, Deputy CEO of the Independent Development Trust and held numerous CEO positions in South Africa.

Experience: Frans is a director of Momentum Group, Advantage Asset Managers, FirstRand International Asset Management and RMB Asset Management International (Pty) Ltd.

He has been part of Momentum on the senior management team and amongst the positions he has held are Chief Financial Officer of Momentum Group Ltd and Director Strategic Investments for Momentum Group, since 1988. He resigned from Momentum on June 2007 and now serves on various boards and committees in a non-executive capacity.

Experience:

Braam was seconded to London in 2009 and is CEO of RMB Asset Management (International). In 2007, he set up an Alternative Fund of Funds business for the Momentum Group and became CEO of FRAIM.

After completing his degree in banking at the University of Pretoria (SA), Braam started his career as a money market dealer at RMB in 1993. He has since obtained a broad background in financial markets, specialising in fixed-interest securities at various South African merchant banks and designing capital protected solutions for the local retirement fund industry.

GA Owen

Experience:

Glyn is currently heading up Momentum Investment Consulting (MIC), which includes the advisory arm of the UK business, RMB Asset Management International, as well as that of Momentum Wealth in South Africa. He is, at present, a member of the investment policy group for MIC and is responsible for the strategic development of the business.

Glyn has over thirty-five years experience, most of which was gained in London. Prior to joining and working with the FirstRand Group, Glyn was Head of the International Division at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, where he was responsible for international investments for non-UK institutions. He also spent three years working in the investment industry in Australia.

Experience:

Patrick currently holds chief executive functions in both RMB Asset Management International Limited and FirstRand (UK) Limited.

Patrick qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 after serving articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). After working in London and South Africa for PwC’s Management Consulting practice, Patrick joined Discount House Merchant Bank Limited in 1992 as a Senior General Manager in finance and operations. In 1994, he joined Nedcor Bank Limited as an Assistant General Manager in their Group Services division, prior to this, he held the post of Client Services Executive at Aegis Insurance Company Limited, which was 50% held by RMB.

He moved to RMB International in 1997 as CFO and thereafter COO, initially based in Dublin before moving to London in July 2007.

Experience:

Experience:

Gert is presently the COO of RMB Asset Management and is involved in various aspects while holding a myriad of responsibilities within the RMB group. These include technological duties, retail client and investment administration as well as institutional client liaising. He is also actively involved in the company’s corporate governance activities and is a member of multiple RMB Asset Management forums and committees including but not limited to: the Audit and Risk committees, Investment and Business committees, the Business Head forum, and the Africa forum.

Gert began his career in Johannesburg in 1992 by taking up both junior and managerial positions within the internal auditing sector. One year later he was headhunted by Momentum Life and commenced as a manager of actuarial information. Thereafter, he moved into RMB Unit Trusts and RMB Investment Services as head of business administration. In 1998, Gert was promoted to COO.

Experience:

Etienne is currently the CEO of Momentum Wealth. His main areas of expertise include leading various teams of specialists, forming key partnerships as well as championing the development and implementation of an innovative investment product range.

Etienne has been with the Momentum Group since 1997. He began within the group as a Junior Actuarial Consultant and progressed from here into Momentum Life, heading up product development. In 2002, he joined Momentum Wealth in a managerial capacity, leading the financial engineering and innovation department.

KJ Hinton
Current Position: Chief Executive Officer: RMB Unit Trusts
Experience: Kevin was appointed CEO of RMB Unit Trusts in November 2009. Prior to this he was Head of Investment Marketing for Momentum Wealth and RMB Investment Services where he was responsible for the Group’s strategic marketing initiatives. Kevin also worked for Syfrets Managed Assets as their Marketing Manager from 1987 to 1993, prior to the management walk out in 1992 and the establishment of Coronation Fund Managers. He was also employed at TMA Investment Products Services - SA’s pioneer of the linked investment industry - from 1995 to 1999 as Head of Corporate Marketing Services.

Experience:

Willie is currently the CEO of the FNB Wealth Segment, a position he has occupied since 2005.

After completing his MBA at the University of Pretoria in 1985, Willie entered the Iscor workforce as an Industrial Engineer. He joined the RMB group in 1996 as part of a project team to establish a presence in the retail market. This venture culminated into Origin wherein Willie’s position included head of Marketing and Product Development as well as head of Origin itself. In 2003, he transferred to RMB Private Bank as CEO.

Kobus left Momentum in 2009 to pursue his own interests. However, he still serves as a non-executive director on the boards of Momentum Group, Momentum Short-Term Insurance Ltd, Momentum Private Client Ltd, Momentum Administration Services Ltd, Momentum Investment Consulting Ltd, and RMB Unit Trust Ltd.

Kobus holds a D.Phil from the University of Stellenbosch and also completed AMP at Oxford University, UK. He joined Momentum in 1990 and until 2008 he was CEO of Momentum Sales and an Executive Director of the Momentum Group.
